It has been four years since I last attended the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s Annual Meeting (AOSSM), which has always been one of my favorite orthopedic conferences. This meeting is held in a different city each year with lots of outdoor activities and excitement; this time around I was headed to Washington, DC.

We started the conference by attending the opening reception where the exhibitors were abuzz introducing updates to their current products and unveiling new products galore. Once the reception closed, we were ready for dinner. One of my favorite things to do when visiting a city is to try a new restaurant. We really enjoyed Founding Farmers and Distillers on Massachusetts Avenue. It was an easy walk from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, but we took an Uber there – DC in July can be humid, even for these South Jersey girls. The restaurant is owned by a group of farmers; the food is homemade and high quality. Everything was amazing!

The next day we visited the exhibit hall where we continued to see our current clients and make new connections. My goal was to meet all the companies that manufacture biologics; there have been so many advancements in this area that it sparked the creation of a full day symposium during AOSSM titled the “The Next Generation of Biologics.” In addition, our own Healio|Orthopedics Today publication recently launched a Biologics Resource Center to cover clinical news and we are actively looking for an advertising sponsor.

Healio’s amazing editors were on-site reporting live from the symposium and provided Healio’s readers with the most up-to-date news from the meeting. The innovation was in full swing as we saw Miach Orthopaedics presented with the 2023 AOSSM ACE Award in recognition of the BEAR implant as a cutting-edge innovation.

I really enjoyed my time at AOSSM and it was exciting to gain new insights from leading experts in orthopaedic sports medicine. I can’t wait to see what fun location I will be traveling to next year!
