I had the pleasure of attending Cleveland Clinic’s inaugural A.I. Summit for Healthcare Professionals earlier this month and I left feeling both empowered and energized by the transformative role AI is playing in healthcare.

First, I want to commend Cleveland Clinic and the lead activity directors Jame Abraham, MD, FACP, and Scott R. Steele, MD, MBA, FACS, FASCRS, for organizing an outstanding event that drew more than 650 attendees in person and via livestream.

One of the most thought-provoking presentations came from David Rhew, MD, global chief medical officer and vice president of healthcare at Microsoft. His keynote focused on three core messages that resonated deeply with those of us exploring AI’s growing impact on care delivery:

Rhew challenged attendees to consider how balancing technology with effective implementation can lead to better outcomes, particularly in environments where clinical resources are limited. He shared examples and use cases where AI helped shift the system from reactive to proactive care, emphasizing that collaboration among health systems, life sciences companies, and patients will accelerate adoption and amplify impact.

What stood out most to me was Rhew’s assertion that AI will only succeed in healthcare if it is trustworthy. That insight is critical and directly aligns with our philosophy at Healio as we prepare to launch Smart Guidance this fall, our new proprietary generative AI assistant for healthcare professionals.

I left the summit inspired by how far we’ve come and excited about the pace of innovation. I’m eager to see what the healthcare and pharma media industries will achieve by the time we gather again next year!
